Proceeds to Benefit Local Family Battling Breast Cancer

Sarah Appel Breast Cancer Benefit

Lucas Oil Center dedicates a Saturday in October each year to hold a give back fundraiser in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For this event, 20% of the day’s proceeds are donated back to a local individual battling Breast Cancer. This year’s benefit was held on Saturday, October 24 from 8AM-5PM and both East Side and West Side Lucas Oil Center locations participated.

The recipient of this year’s fundraiser is Sarah Appel of Boonville. Sarah was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma in 2012 at the young age of 28. She was in remission for 6 years after undergoing a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. In late 2018 her cancer came back with a vengeance. She is now fighting metastatic invasive ductal carcinoma. The cancer has now spread to her liver and bones. She has been on 5 different types of chemotherapy treatments over the past 2 years. Now at 36, Sarah’s cancer is incurable. Sarah is living her life to the fullest right now to have as much quality time as possible with her husband Jeff and 2 daughters Makaelyn (11) and Brooklyn (8).

“Due to the coronavirus, other local events and fundraisers that Sarah’s family has depended on in the past several years for treatment have been cancelled. This year more than any previous year, this fundraiser is so important. We sincerely hope the community will come out and help,” said April Maxey, HR/Operations Manager at Lucas Oil Center.

UPDATE: Thanks to the support of our community coming out to have auto services done on the day of the fundraiser. The amount of $2,749.48 will be going back to Sarah to help her and her family with medical care costs!
